I saw this on the front door of a Thai restaurant yesterday. Isn't it a Thai restaurant is namely serving Thai food? Why would people go in and ask for PF Chang's style sesame chicken?
This is not a Chinese restaurant!

有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎- 孔子
It is such a joy when there are friends visiting from afar- Confucius (My Translation)
S from San Diego finally decided to come to my city to visit me. For the last few days, we've been touring around the city. There are two requests from S- 1. We have to eat breakfast at least once at Dunkin' Donuts. 2. We must try White Castle at least once (as these two places don't have branches the Bay Area).
I wish I could have taken S to Potbelly and a Coney Island. A co-worker of S suggested S to visit a Coney Island in my area. S thought Coney Island is really a place that we might need to take a ferry to visit. :)
(Here are just some high-lights of my local vacation. There are more pictures on facebook. )
I recommended this Ajisin udon soup to S- it's the best udon soup in town.
Oddly enough, it's my first time eating Dunkin' Donuts too. I felt like I was a tourist when I walked into the store.
Though I've been here last year, I had to take S here as this Art Museum is a must see in my city. Luckily there is a new exhibition of Aschan artists, so I got to see something new this time.
Our all-time favourite- Bubble Tea! According to S, there are no good bubble tea places in her area. Actually, it's much more fun to drink bubble tea with friends.
We saw this restaurant on our way home. I thought the name of the restaurant looked like a misspell of a friend's name.
Though we both watched the Harold and Kumar go to White Castle movie, we've never been to White Castle before. So we decided to eat here on Saturday night. We looked up the closest White Castle online before we left our place. So the journey to White Castle was pretty much unadventurous. :)
Look at all the little, greasy burgers....
Sunday- we went to an Ethiopian restaurant for dinner since I've never tried it before.
These were our food (for 4 people). It's fun to eat with our hands. I felt like I was playing play-doh again.
Lunch
There were more than 20 people ahead of me in this sandwich place. Looking up, it's assuring when I saw this sign.
And thanks to S who told me the nutrition/calories in my favorite, yummy Italian sandwich- 737 calories. and 62% of daily value of saturated fat. Wow, I did not know that. And that became my motivation to work out today. :)

No More Free Drinks!
One of my favourite places for lunch is a tiny Thai food vendor in the food court. Usually when I have a craving for Thai/Chinese/Spicy food, this Thai place is the place to go. On Friday, as usual, I ordered my medium spicy tofu Pad Thai. This time, I noticed there are some changes of the store policy. Next to the cashier machine, there's a hand-written note about the new water policy. It said, "No more free drinks. We charge 10 cents per glass of water."
I always thought it was a nice gesture to prepare ice water for customers who ordered spicy Thai food for free! This Thai place is a monopoly business as it is the only Asian food vendor in the food court. And because of that, the average wait time from ordering to getting your food from the kitchen is about 20 minutes. That's about 1/3 of the lunch time of an average cubicle dweller! So if time is money, and a 'busy' customer like me spend so much time on lining up and waiting for the food, I think I deserve a better customer service and perhaps, at least a glass of water.
Does this Thai place have the right to start treating the customers poorly since it is the only Asian Food store for the entire complex?
I know it costs money to buy the plastic cups and straws, but charging the customer a dime for the water seems to be a "cheap" gesture. How about raising the price for everything in the menu by 10 cents? I'm sure the customers would not notice about it.
Sure, 10 cents for a glass of water is a relatively insignificant amount compared to a 7 dollars meal. And I'm sure a lot of people are willing to buy a glass of water from the store. (For obvious reason- you need to have something to drink while eating hot and spicy food. ;)) But still, the message behind the "No More Free Drinks" doesn't sound right.

My Burrito Experience
When I visited my friend CY in Chicago during Thanksgiving, she kept telling me to try Chipotle because she just loved it, especially the burrito bol. (ha, see the power of word of mouth again.)
Today, I went to a Chipotle store near by to grab my dinner since I was just too tired to cook after climbing 36 floors of staircase for my first physical training of Climb Detroit.
It's my second time trying the vegetarian burrito bol and I loved it. Somehow, I don't know why, I just felt their food is fresh and healthy.
Check out the company website, it's quite fun to browse around. Somehow, my first two burrito bol experiences in Chipotle reminded me of my first few Starbucks experiences (Don't ask me why, it's just hard to describe- perhaps, it's their passion of introducing an unique experience e.g. the romance of coffee and the feeling of luxury in Starbucks(like spending about 4 dollars on a cup of coffee) and the feeling of eating healthy in Chipotle, even though you can get them from the mom and pop store around the block?
